Elizabeth Tilney: The girl who volunteered to escort Lady Jane Grey across the tower

Main Conflict: Elizabeth finds herself questioning her catholic religion. Give people in her region flip flop between protestantism and catholicism  just to save themselves. She observes Lady Jane in her faith and begins to think seriously about her own.
The book is about Jane Grey the 9 day queen and disposition.
The girls learn to live together and form a bond. The story takes a dangerous turn and Jane’s loyalties are tested

“...Suddenly there was a flash and the axeman stepping back” This is the scene of Lady Jane Grey’s execution told through Elizabeth’s point of view.
“There she was, the girl who had, until that morning, been England’s queen” This is the moment when Elizabeth first meets Jane, the disposed queen

“There was no denying it was well and truly over for her” This is when Elizabeth realizes jane is just a girl like her.

  • Jane was a disposed because support for mary grew fast and left Jane with no one.
  • Jane was executed because her claim to the throne was seen as treasonous by Mary and her supporter
