The King’s Rose
Main characters
- King Henry VIII he was the king during this time period
- Catherine Howard she was a teenager who the king found attractive
- Jane is one of the maids in King Henry’s castle
- Arthur is Henry’s brother who he despises
- Thomas is his father’s friends son who King Henry is close with
- Margaret becomes Catherine’s friend and is Henry’s sister
Main Conflict
- The biggest conflict for King Henry is finding a women to marry and to have a son who will be able to takeover as king after he dies.
- Catherine does not see King Henry as someone to marry because she starts catching feeling for this close friend Thomas, however she knows if she tells Henry this he would kill her, literally.
- She must keep her love secret which becomes very difficult to hide and with all the people in the castle they start to become so suspicious and eventually question her however she doesn’t confess to it. They then staged a fake death of Henry in order to see if she will budge and admit her love for Thomas
- Catherine becomes pregnant however king Henry knew it couldn’t have been his baby, which is when the truth came out leading to king Henry killing Catherine and executing Thomas from the castle.
Quotes
“Of all losses, time is the most irrecuperable for it can never be redeemed.” This is relevant because during this period people had no time to waste with choices that they made. I also really like this quote and believe that time is the only thing that really holds people back from succeeding.
“God shall be my hope, my stay, my guide and lantern to my feet.” This can relate to this time period because many people during this period had less knowledge than we do now and also lacked the internet for answers which is why they became reliant on what God had in store for them. I like this quote because I also believe that God chooses what happens in your life.
“Riches don't make a man rich, they only make him busier.” This quote is relevant because all people during this time period worried about was having the most money and power. I chose this quote because even people today still only care about the amount of wealth they have.
Historical perspective
- In my book King henry is a real King and did in fact kill his wives.
- Also the reason behind why he killed them is because he wanted a son, however none of which gave him a son
- He forced a teenager to marry him while he was in his late forties.
Success
It’s not a very known book however out of the people that have read it seem to like it and I also liked it because there was so many plot twists.
Author
The author Alissa Libby did a great job of keeping me interested in reading the book. It was fast pace but not to much to where you couldn’t follow along. She started writing ever since she was in highschool and also majored in writing. The king’s Rose was her second book however after writing it she got “writer’s block”.
