Peggy’s uncle did not like her so when her betrothed did not want her, her uncle kicked her out of the house. After she got removed from her uncle's house a man named Mr. Tinderflint approached her saying that he was a close friend of her mother. Peggy was curious because no one ever talked about her mother and what had happened to her. Peggy found out that her mother was an spy and Mr.Tinderflint wanted Peggy to come and be an disguise and take the place of Lady Francesca who suddenly died of a fever. Quotes
  1. “My predecessor and double had drawn this, and someone- Francesca herself, probably- had hidden it. Who was afraid would find it? The threatening Me. Peele? Or the false Mr. Tinderflint?”
I chose this quote because even though that Francesca was dead she was still hiding something and during these times there was spies everywhere so it was very easy to hide things and people not knowing about them. If someone found about these secrets it could be life or death.

2.“The new sketch showed my face as clearly as my glass did on any given morning. Matthew had drawn me without power or patch. Lines of Concentration etched my forehead, and a tiny smile curved my lips. I was planning something or about to make a telling argument. It was like Francesca’s portrait but not quite.”
I choose this quote because even though Peggy was dressing like Francesca and was acting like her someone will notice the difference. You could only personate someone for so long before others will find out what she is dong and what she is up to.
3. “Robert was a Jacobite. Robert was not a swooning galland or a pawn in some game played by bored courtiers. In this dark empty room, I stood next to a traitor spy, one in touch with the rebels in the North.
I choose this quote because even if you know someone for an long time you still do not know what they be up to and what type of business that they have going on. Even though Peggy was dressed as Lady Francesca she still did not know what she was getting herself into with Robert and at this point she realized she cannot trust everybody that Francesca trusted.

Historical Perspective
  • In 1745 there was an Jacobite rebellion it was a rebellion or war in Great Britain and in Ireland
  • In 1714 King George I ruled the London Kingdom and died while ruling the throne
  • Molly Lepell was an actual real person and she played a maid in the book like she did in real life. People nicknamed her Schatz meaning treasure in German. Also Sophy Howe was a real person also

Overall Success of the book
The book was overall a really good book it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series. I really could relate to this story because Peggy is just trying to fit in with the rest of the ladies. I love that the author Sarah Zetter created this book off of spies in the 1700s because it shows how much went on in the castle and how much scandals there were. It also goes into depth about how there were affair that went on in the castle that none of the people knew about.

Comments

  1. Are books are similar because they have a female main character that uses their wits and even though they've been through hardships they manage to pull through.
